East West Rail - further informal consultation, 14 November to 24 January

East West Rail is undertaking a further consultation about the next stages of the project which will include the Bletchley to Bedford upgrade and the new route from Bedford to Cambridge. It will also cover some further relatively minor but important works affecting specific locations in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. And it outline their plans to convert the route to operate new hybrid batter/electric powered trains in an arrangement which is called "discontinuous electrification" where only short sections of track have overhead power lines which allow the trains to charge up their batteries, and the trains then run on battery power on track which does not have overhead lines.

The consultation opens on 14 November and runs until 24 January 2025.
