Biodiversity Steering Group

As a result of recent legislation Winslow Town Council is to increase its focus on conserving and enhancing the biodiversity of the area it represents. A Biodiversity Steering Group has now been formed comprising three Town Councillors, and three local residents with specific relevant expertise. The Steering Group will recommend actions to Council that it considers will improve biodiversity in the town.

The focus of the group will be the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity within the Council's area. For example :

  • consideration of the potential impact on biodiversity by planning applications
  • managing areas the Council is responsible for using environmentally friendly practices that will promote biodiversity
  • supporting local farmers within the parish to manage their areas of responsibility with biodiversity in mind, and
  • supporting residents' and local organisations' activities to enhance and promote biodiversity.

The Steering Group will aim to raise public awareness of biodiversity issues, including through the Council's website and newsletters. It also expects to suggest how residents can assist and make a difference by involving the community wherever and whenever feasible.
